Tapestry

Weaving a Kind and Peaceful World for all Living Beings

About Tapestry

Tapestry is a vanguard knowledge-generating force working on behalf of change-makers: activists, educators, and people of faith. Tapestry works across continents, communities, and social justice concerns to build caring, dignity, and respect for all life and the earth itself.

Research & Publishing

Through knowledge, Tapestry inspires change, generating and compiling information for change-makers, shared though public presentations, publications, and websites. Tapestry is currently working to build the Animals and Religion Website and plans a website featuring information in Vegan Ethics: AMORE, which explores a litany of moral concerns quelled by choosing vegan.

Anymals & Religion

Religious ethics demand compassion and more than 80% of humanity claims to be religious. Nonetheless, animal activists rarely have the necessary tools to engage from a faith perspective. Tapestry is gathering and sharing this core knowledge for activists and scholars (in anymal studies and religious studies), and for people of faith who care about anymals.

Anymal

“Anymal,” coined by Tapestry’s founder and director, refers to every individual from every species other than the one who is using the term.  “Anymal” avoids using “animal” incorrectly (as if human beings were not animals), avoids cumbersome referents (nonhuman animals and other-than-human animals), and avoids humancentric, dualistic, and alienating references (“non” and “other”).

CANHAD

When no one was willing to fund the Coalition Against Nonprofit Harassment and Discrimination (CANHAD), created by and shared among anymal activists at the height of the MeToo Movement, Tapestry stepped forward. The CANHAD website provides a safe space for survivors from the non-profit sector to share their experiences, which helps victims to heal and helps all of us to better understand discrimination and oppression in social justice activism.

Founder & Director
Dr. Lisa Kemmerer

Tapestry’s Founder and Director, Professor Emeritus Dr. Lisa Kemmerer, is internationally known for her groundbreaking work in anymal ethics, and for addressing all forms of anymal exploitation while also working against human oppressions and environmental degradation.

Tapestry (educational 501c3, EIN# 82-4653673) is grateful to those who support our mission to build peace and compassion through education.
