About Tapestry
Tapestry is an anymal liberation organization, a vanguard knowledge-generating force working on behalf of activists, educators/students, and people of faith (in the religion program) to stop anymal exploitation, human oppression, and environmental degradation. Tapestry works toward a time when all life and the earth itself are treated with care, dignity, and respect.
Animals & Religion
All faiths demand compassion and 85% of the global population is religious, yet animal activists rarely know enough about religious ethics to engage from a faith perspective. Working across all major religions, Tapestry’s Animals & Religion Program is at the forefront of acquiring and sharing this essential knowledge for activists, scholars, and people of faith.
Anymal
“Anymal,” coined by Tapestry’s founder and director, refers to every individual from every species other than the one who is using the term. “Anyma” l avoids using “animal” incorrectly (as if human beings were not animals), avoids cumbersome referents (nonhuman animals and other-than-human animals), and avoids humancentric, dualistic, and alienating references (“non” and “other”).
The Coalition Against Nonprofit Harassment & Discrimination
(CANHAD)
Tapestry is home to the Coalition Against Nonprofit Harassment and Discrimination (CANHAD) website, created by and shared among anymal activists at the height of the MeToo Movement. CANHAD provides a safe space where survivors in the non-profit world share their experiences, helping survivors to heal and educators to better understand and work against discrimination and oppression in social justice activism.
Dr. Lisa Kemmerer (Founder & Director)
Tapestry’s Founder and Director, Professor Emeritus Dr. Lisa Kemmerer, is internationally known for her groundbreaking work in anymal ethics, addressing all forms of anymal exploitation while also working against human oppressions and environmental degradation.
